Project Description
The Janzen Builders’ framing crew was hired to fix and preserve the Historic 627 2nd street “Sweet Caporal” building. Due to different engineering and design standards in the early 1900s, the 2nd-floor roof system and floor system had begun to sag and crack due to over-spanned framing members. LVL material was used to “sister” up the roof joists, eliminate the sag in the floor, and replace an existing 60’ bearing wall on the main floor. A new layout was established and a penthouse was framed on the second floor. New bearing walls were built to accommodate the expanding stairwell and insulation walls were framed along the exterior of the main and second floors to bring the building up to today’s standards. The Janzen Builders’ crew enjoyed working on another old and unique opportunity in our City’s Downtown area.
